OPTIMIST DINGHY
WHY SAIL AN OPTIMIST AT PARUA BAY (WHANGAREI CRUISING CLUB) ON A SUNDAY
-
Whangarei has a massive history of successful sailors emerging from our little city. We don’t have the numbers like other major cities around NZ. Forming a group of Optimist yachts will build our numbers and encourage fun while doing it.
-
Whangarei Cruising Club respects the encouraged transition into a BIC O’pen skiff but strongly encourages families looking at the next step after passing level one to invest in an Optimist to gain more skills.
-
The Optimist will help develop skills required to sail at the highest level in regattas Nationally, gain experience in close racing with a high number of the same boats on the start line.
-
Whangarei Cruising Club encourages a very low cost Optimist class as this stepping stone to teach your daughter/son the skills and level to compete competitively at a regatta (20-178 competitors).
-
By increasing the number of Optimists in Parua Bay (Whangarei Cruising Club) on Sundays allows the kids to practice fleet starts, encourage skills learnt by picking wind shifts to gain an advantage to the top mark, tactics to overtake boats, close mark rounding skills, picking lay lines at all marks to gain advantage over their competitors. Perfecting boat handling skills like roll tacking and sailing fast downwind to gain advantages.
-
Having a high number of Optimists on the start line will give your daughter/son a better understanding of International Racing Rules which will help them compete at regattas like the “Sir Peter Blake trust” regatta – boosting their confidence.
-
Whangarei Cruising Club promises to help all new members fine tune their yachts so your daughter/son can sail to their highest potential.
-
The increased number of Optimist sailors in the Whangarei Cruising Club on Sundays will allow club funding/sponsors to get on board and fund High Performance Coaches, boosting the skill level of the sailors.
YOUR JUNIOR SAILOR WILL FIND IT COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TO THE CLUB LEARN TO SAIL OPTIMISTS AND GREAT FUN. MAKE GOOD FRIENDS AND STAY IN THE SPORT LONGER.
