Centre Board Division
The Whangarei Cruising Club Center Board Division is based in Parua Bay. A yacht storage compound is attached to the club house.
The club has donated a small fleet of 420 yachts to the Northland Centreboard Sailing Trust to foster a stepping platform for the young sailors keen to move up in this exciting sport. High Schools also use these boats for inter school teams racing competitions. You can expect our future National representatives started in this class and thence possibly the Olympics.
This is an extremely important function of the Whangarei Cruising Club.
The Open BIC class has become the modern international design for competative one class sailing and for youngsters to learn in. The club has six of these craft so come on down try it out. Youngsters is a bit tongue in cheek though as these little craft are also raced by teenagers under 65kg.
