Calibre 50 Yacht race

1)
Rules
The race
will be governed under the rules as defined in the New Zealand racing rules
of Sailing 2005-2008.

2)
Handicaps:
Yachts
participating in the ‘’Calibre 50’’ will be a handicapped under PHRF
handicap system, primarily using the existing OYC Club handicaps.
3)
Schedule
The 2006
’Calibre 50 ’ will be held on Saturday 25th November 2006
starting at Whangarei Harbour No.9 Buoy at 1000 Hrs. All competitors will
race as one division, and should fly a calibre sail’s race pennant to
indicate participation.
High
tide: 10:52 am.
Sunset: 20:15 hrs.
Moon
set: 24:00 hrs.
4)Course.
Cross
the start line between No.9 Buoy and the committee boat in a southerly
direction followed by:
No :6 Buoy
To Starboard
Power station
buoy(South eastern) To Port
Maro Tiri Islands(Chichens)
To Port
Bream Islands(Guano)
To Port
Sail Rock
To Port
Taranga Island(Hen)
To Port
No :6 Buoy
To Starboard
And
finally pass through the Start/finish line in a northerly direction.
The race
control officer has the right to modify the course at his discretion, and
any changes will be advised to the fleet on VHF radio. (Channel 06).
5)
Known obstacles
A 100
metre prohibited area exists around the wave rider buoy, located at 35.53.0
S, 174.32.9 E. This clearance must be observed, and maintained at all times.

6)
Start
Upon
arrival at the start area, each yacht shall past the stern of the committee
boat, and identify themselves as a starter and be acknowledged.
Each
starter is to forward the following minimum information during
identification: Sail number, and number of crew onboard. This exercise shall
be carried out prior to the 5 minute warning signal for divisional racing.
The start
line will be between No.9 buoy, and the stern of the committee boat.
Starting System 1 will be used.
The
start/committee boat is a motor vessel named “Westwind.”
7)
Cancellation.
Race
cancellation will be at the discretion of the Sailing committee, and
indicated by Flag N over H, and also advised on VHF channel 06.
8)
Finish
Yachts
shall finish by crossing the start/finish line in a northerly direction.(ie:
leaving No.9 buoy to port.) In the event of the committee boat failing to be
on station, the first yacht finishing shall anchor and record the finish
times for the fleet.
9)
Time limit
Yachts
failing to cross the finish line within 16 hours shall be deemed DNF.
10)
Protests
Protest
must be lodged with the Race control officer by noon Sunday 26th
November 2006.
11)
Mandatory Radio schedules
All radio
communication will be via VHF Channel 06. Race
controller is also available by phoning Bruce Yovich on 0274 394 993.
It is
mandatory that all participating yachts to call the race control officer (as
soon as practical) after going round the following marks;
Maro Tiri islands
(Chickens), Sail rock, No 6 buoy.
A failure
to report, may (at the discretion of the race control officer) result in a
time penalty being allocated to that yacht.
Any yacht
withdrawing from the race shall advise the race control officer as soon as
possible.
12)
Safety.
There shall
be a minimum of two crew, plus the skipper on each yacht. These crew must be
aged over twelve years. Persons less than 16 years of age will also require
parental consent.
All
yachts shall carry fuel for a minimum of 4 hours motoring.
Trailer
yachts shall comply with the requirements of category A of
part 5, and be capable of attaining a Type 1 SRI certificate.
Keel
yachts shall comply with the requirements of category 4 of part 2, of
the New Zealand Yachting Federation Safety Regulations.
In
additional to the above category requirements, the following safety
equipment is required specific to this race;
a)
Navigation lights
The Onerahi
Yacht Club reserves the right to inspect race competitor’s vessels for
compliance to the safety regulations, including any time during the race
day.
13)
Disclaimer of liability
Competitors participate in this yacht race entirely at their own risk. Refer
rule 4, Decision to race. The organising authority, it’s members, and
sponsors will not accept any liability for material damage, personal injury,
or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during, or after this
sailing event.
