Information
 | Just seen not final results on web
site, these are what we know |
 | Ben, 1st, George 3rd, Scott 5 th,
Michael Cate 7th, Josh 9th, Jordon 10th, Declan 16th, Kez 17th, Joe
22nd, Larua 24 th, Michael T 40, - lots of OCS in last race did not
help some of final results. |
 | 25/7, final day, same people, different
position, George 2 first and Ben two seconds. What a final race and
follow on. Start, looked like a number of boats over at the pin,
after about 20 seconds, individual recall flag goes up, by which
stage, the sailors are gone - should have be been cancelled and
restarted - it should have been a general recall. Race finishes, the
Belgium coaches have done the numbers, their 2221 sailor needs to
finish in top 7 and Ben in second. Ben finishes 2 and 2221 finishes
6th, he is very happy. We all head back to shore, start packing up
and then the OCS go up, 2221 was OCS, along with some of ours, but
not the ones which were over. Result - looks like Ben has won and
George second - still be confirmed. We should have country one as
well. In the end could be ok result - thanks to some so-so race
management. Go the Taipa Kid |

 | 24/7, Ben and George's day, 1 & 2 in
each race, yes, more wind, around 15 knots, little lighter in second
race. Bigger seas, and very confused waves coming from different
directions. The lighter ones had a very hard day. The others had a
mixed bag. Lots of sunshine, a good day. |
 | 23/7, they learnt from yesterday, and
started racing at 3, we won one of the protest and lost 2. The wind
today was around 6 - 8 knots, nice sunshine and courses a bit
longer. Still very tricky sailing conditions with a few holes and
strong tide. Declan had 3 wons and Scot 3 seconds, most the team
having some good results and one or 2 bad ones. Joe got pinged on
the start line in second race, some had a lot recovery to do.
Everyone appears happy. The dutch sailor had 3 wins also, so it
going to be interesting couple of days - bring it on... |
 | 22/7, what a day, first confusion at ramp if could go out or
not, then bit of towing get the boats out, then first race starts,
then is cancelled, then everyone is told to go, back to wharf, then
wind starts to come in and then we are told, no, stay out out, no go
back. In meantime, wind is building to 6 - 8 knots. Then racing gets
underway, but very short courses, no chance or limited time to
recover. Anyway, some very good results, Declan 2 first (one
recorded as dnc, he finished with the first fleet and they did not
see him finish) and 2, which there is a protest lodged for, maybe a
another 1st) Laura and Michael T had better days. Michael Cate had
another very good day. Scott had some tidy results Joseph was
recorded as OCS, in last race, but not sound and protest put in.
Plus another protest here and there, could be long night. It was
hard day. A duch sailor was very fast today. The results are now
meant to be on the splash world site. While writing this the power
at the club has gone out 5 or 6 times. After 2 and bit hour first
protest finished. Joe had a Duch sailor DSQ. Next protest meetings
tomorrow at 12 noon. Racing is due to start at 3 tomorrow, some bad
weather passing over. |
 | 21/7, it's under way, of the six races, we won 4 and had the
lead in the 5th. Wins to Scot (2), Michael Cate, Ben, and Joseph had
lead in 3 rd race. It was good conditions, light to start with and
increased during day, but nothing more than say 15 knot, bit of
swell. Most people are happy, room for improvement, and John's on
their case. Just waiting for protest time to finish. Sorry, have not
been able to send Text during races, have been busy dishing food and
drinks. There's a Belgian sailor who is looking good. Should be a
good debrief session tonight - one person may have incurred several
mentions in Manager's court... |
 | Overall teams had good results, interesting to see final places
6 in top 10... |
 | Also have a look at
www.youtube.com and type
jovimagem in search or try

NZ splash site, www.nzsplash.co.nz for pictures which should be going online
soon. |
 | Ben following his win in final race, happy
.
|
 | 20/7, major correct in comment for 19/7 -
there was too much swell to be able to get out of the entrance, so
NO sailing yesterday. Today, nice breeze, got the practice race out
of the way, our sailors very happy with their boat speed and as
normal, did not finish the race. George went around the top mark in
finish, a number of the others had buttoned off by that stage.
Everyone is happy, and can't wait for the racing tomorrow. We are
hoping that the legs will be longer than today 7 mins to top mark.
The opening is about to take place, and we have a haka lined up.
Hopefully we will get some photos coming through soon. |
 | 19/7, registration and measuring day is
underway. Good day yesterday with very light wind practice and big
swells. Very tidal at places. Today, we have clouds racing by - not
use to cloud, not sure what the day will bring, but there is plenty
of wind, so chance to refine the heavy wind sailing. Another haka
practice and it's getting there. |
 | 18/7, finally all boats here, and after
busy morning, out on the water training - took 3 rib before we had
one working - hot, light winds, blue skies. |
 | 17/7, first of the boats turned up today,
3 on the truck which arrived today. Next truck is due here at 7am.
John Morgan arrived today and last night had team dinner for 24, and
first of the Haka practice - by the end it was looking something
like a haka - after a bit more practice, should be ok. |
 | Currently light weather, looks like a jet
stream is blocking the sea breeze - so hopefully it goes. Sunshine. |
 | 15/7 Boy the days roll by, have had problems getting good
internet access. I think I have it sorted now...John Morgan was due
to arrive this morning, but due health issues, he has delayed it
till 17/7. Josh arrived this morning, so all the team is here now.
Just need the boats, but in meantime \, energy levels are starting
to build back up. Oh some rain cloud have appeared and a bit of
thunder... |
 | In town
 |
 | 12/7 Just in the brief time we have
been sitting at yacht club, several 180 degree wind sifts - could be
a very technical sailing event...our group has just had use of one
of the German's personal rib to have a look at the sailing waters
and get an idea of what's out there. |
 | 12/7 Finally getting settled in,
currently sitting at Yacht club watching the Dutch at work. There
appears to be breeze and very tricky tidal conditions. We may have
got a couple of ribs from Europe worlds and we may have a German rib
for hour. The house is very good and good supermarkets. Blue skies
and breeze. |
 | 11/7 Several days, currently in Lisbon,
slowly getting up, last 2 days has been very long, the flight from
Hong Kong to Frankfart was long (12 hours) in very old speced plane,
with very tight seating - made you realise how good the Air NZ
flight was. Then after several hours at airport, then 3 hour flight
to Lisbon and then on to appartment - interesting at 2 am watching 3
taxi drivers working out we our building was - all everyone want was
to go to sleep. |
 | Yesterday, lots of sight seeing and
walking, by the end of the day, and some of us even saw a bull fight
- interest fact, in Portugal they do not kill the bull, but rather
skill of horsemanship - great even. Very interesting day. Blue
skies, lots of wind, and dry heat - but not too hot |
 | 8/7 Day 2 Hong Kong - Suits for the
boys, got them measured up at 11am and first fitting was 7 pm -
impressive stuff. Just about as impressive as the highrises, built
on side of very steep Mountain. Tomorrow we continue our journey,
getting to Lisbon about 11:40 pm local time, after some 15 hours
flying time - could be a big sleep in the following morning. |
 | 7/7 Our group (Fyfes, Burns,
Wrights, Kez) has made it to Hong Kong, leaving Auckland around
midnight, getting into Hong Kong around 7am local time. Has taken
most the day to be able to get into the rooms, and guess what - it's
raining. Everyone is a little tired, so bit of a rest before seeing
the markets.. |
 | Everyone is getting ready to leave
over next couple of weeks |
